sledding through the winter snow

As much as we look forward to snow men, we really look forward to sledding.
It can be a challenge to get enough snow for sledding before Christmas.
March?  Not a problem.
But December snow is sparse in these parts.
And forgive me if you feel otherwise,
but I believe December is the time when you really want to go sledding.

As luck would have it, snow plopped down right in the middle of our Christmas break.
It was a good two days worth of snow that could actually stick around awhile.
And it provided us our dreamed for White Christmas.

It also produced the perfect day for sledding!
We've dragged the girls around our street before.
But timing and sledding conditions have never teamed up like this.
It was a full-blown festival of sledding.

Clairey was rather aprehensive at first.
But she took the hill about twenty feet and stopped right before the big dip.

She liked it.

Then Hallie took the hill and passed Claire's stopping point.
She jetted down the dip at full speed.
And she didn't stop until that chain link fence did the work for her.
Poor girl.
And poor Daddy who was running down the hill to try and stop her.
He witnessed the collision and said he didn't think she'd make it without severe injury.
But, other than tears, she was ready for more sledding - on a tamer hill.

On our crossing to the other side of the park (and the more kid-appropriate hill), I plopped onto the blue disk and zoomed 3/4 of the way down the hill.  When I got up, thrilled, with a huge smile on my face, I remembered I was seven months pregnant.  Oops!  I never would have done that in my first two pregnancies.

Hallie found the kid hill to be much more her speed and size.

Until she flace planted soon after this photo.
But alas, a child's memory is short and Hallie stills begs to go sledding.

Hallie's favorite photo of the day is this one.
She says it looks like she is skiing.

It was a great day indeed.
And very worth the wait!
